Martin.

It’s a little known fact that comedian/actor Martin Lawrence was named after Martin Van Buren, our eighth President. But it is indeed true.

This would of course explain the somewhat forced references to the Panic of 1837, the Aroostook War and the Caroline Affair in Lawrence’s 1990’s sitcom, “Martin.”

Today Whiggy Tease celebrates our two favorite Martins with our new Martin Van Buren swag…

“That’s clever,” you are now thinking. “Why, that’s especially clear.”

Yes, our Martin line was designed by occasional Whiggy Tease contributor, Eric in Toledo. That’s why it’s so clever. But, you did think the Christmas ornaments and dog dishes were clever, didn’t you?

In addition to the usual shirts, we are selling Martin bumper stickers and refrigerator magnets.

The Martin line is available at our CafĂ© Press home page. We’ll move it in a few days when the Martin Van Buren department opens up in the Historical Stuff store.

Don't blame us, we voted for Pigasus.

Most Americans in 1968 thought they had two choices for President in 1968. There was Richard Nixon, and you knew he would eventually be trouble. Hubert H. Humphrey was the other option – but would he really be any better than Lyndon Johnson?

There was a third option. An option that most people have forgotten about. Pigasus – the nominee of the Young International Party (the Yippies).

Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman and others announced the nomination of Pigasus during the protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Needless to say, the police were not amused.

Pigasus was arrested. We swear to you this is true. Whether or not Pigasus was granted his one phone call is not clear to us at this time, but we’ll get back to you.

Celebrate the Pigasus ’68 campaign with these exciting items from Whiggy Tease.

Get your credit cards ready. We’re sure you’ll squeal with delight when your items from the Pigasus ’68 store arrive in your mailbox.

Thanks to Eric in Toledo for another genius idea.

With a little help from our friends.

Almost by definition, folks who are friends of Whiggy Tease are creative and clever. So, when they have an idea for a product, we’ll create it and sell it and keep all the money for ourselves.

With that, we’d like to share two Whiggy Tease items based on ideas of our friends.

The first is from Eric in Toledo. Our original Abraham Lincoln line didn’t test well in the focus groups. Because it was lame. Then, Eric suggested we focus not on Lincoln’s time as President, but his time in Illinois as a lawyer. Eric wrote the following and we turned it into a somewhat authentic looking product.

This is the framed tile. But in the Whiggy Tease Lincoln store, you can get shirts, tote bags, mouse pads, tank tops, clothes for kids and even a keepsake box.

It’s authentic looking stuff, down to the retro spelling of the word “counsellors.”

Next up is Amanda from Minnesota. We haven’t seen Amanda in 15 years, but she contributed a faboo idea for an item for your exiled Republican friends.

Amanda reports that the first ever Republican Party meeting was held in a little white school house in a place called Ripon, Wisconsin. Sure, you’ll find people in Iowa and other places who dispute this, but we believe Amanda.

The Old School Republican line is for sale in Aisle One. You can get shirts, mouse pads and tote bags. Aisle One is also where we keep our Henry Clay, Herbert Hoover and Civil War items.
